Wilfred, the Belgian draft horse, came to join our pasture family in May 2019 after a local rescue saved him from slaughter. He was born in 2005 and lived his early years as an Amish work horse. Once he slowed down, or wasn't of use any more, he was sent to slaughter. The history of his old life still scars his face, but this 2,000 pound teddy bear holds no resentment. He was pulled from slaughter by a local rescue before coming to join our family as Poco's companion. He will rest his giant face on you so you can stare into his soulful eyes or cuddle up with him when he takes a nap in the sun. This guy deserves the best retirement after working tirelessly for years.
Poco, a registered quarter horse, entered my life long before he joined our family. My perfect gentleman was born March 27, 1999 and spent most his life as a lesson horse for young kids learning horsemanship. I was one of those kids and met him during a camp, started working there in exchange for lessons, and years later moved to Texas. Poco became for sale, I went back to Florida to get him, and we came back to Texas together. He is the sweetest boy and is always very respectful of those around him. Poco has been there for so many moments; prom, moving, starting a sanctuary, and expanding our family. He is a comforting presence to the new additions of our family.
